Seven days to change your mind
South African law gives you a cooling off period on anything you buy online. Under section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, you may cancel your order within seven days of receiving it, without giving us a reason and without any penalty.
The only cost to you is getting the goods back to us. Once we have them, we will refund what you paid for the goods within 30 days.
What condition it must come back in
For a change of mind return, we need the piece back the way it left us:
- unused, and not put over a fire
- in its original packaging, with everything that came with it
- undamaged and unmodified
A piece that has already been used on a braai cannot be returned as a change of mind. That is not us being difficult, it is simply no longer new.
If it is faulty, damaged or not what you ordered
This is a different thing entirely, and you have much stronger rights. Under section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act you have six months from delivery to return anything that is defective, unsafe, or not what you were promised.
In that case you choose what happens next: we repair it, replace it, or refund you in full. We also pay the cost of getting it back to us. You do not have to accept a repair if you would rather have your money back.
What we cannot take back
There are a few fair exceptions:
- damage caused by misuse, an accident, or ignoring the safety guidance in our terms
- a piece that has been modified, cut, drilled or re-welded by somebody else
- ordinary discolouration from fire and heat, which is normal on stainless steel and is not a defect
- wear and tear from normal use over time
How to start a return
Email orders@spitalles.co.za with your order number, which piece it is, and what the problem is. Photographs help us a lot and usually save you a phone call. You can also phone us on +27 74 298 5566.
Please do not send anything back before we have replied. We will tell you where to send it and, where the return is our cost, how to do that without paying up front.
How refunds are paid
Refunds go back to the card you paid with, through Yoco. Depending on your bank it usually takes a few working days to show up on your statement. We do not refund in cash and we do not issue store credit unless you ask us for it.
Nothing here takes away your rights
This policy sits on top of South African consumer law, it does not replace it. If anything written here ever conflicts with the Consumer Protection Act or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, the law wins.
Not sure how this applies to you?
Phone us and ask. You will get one of the people who actually builds these, not a call centre.
